First of all, setfa invented the world's first single line chain stitch hand sewing machine for making holes first, then threading and sewing leather shoes. In 1841, French tailor B. timonier invented and manufactured a chain stitch sewing machine with hook. In 1851, i.m. Shengjia, an american mechanic, invented the lockstitch sewing machine and founded Shengjia company. The sewing machines of this period were basically hand-operated.
In 1859, Shengjia company invented foot sewing machine. After Thomas and Edison invented the electric motor, in 1889, Shengjia company invented the electric motor driven sewing machine. Since then, it has ushered in a new era of sewing machine industry.
In 1940, Elena company of Switzerland invented a portable household sewing machine with a shell made of aluminum alloy with a cylinder base and an internal motor. After 1950, the domestic multifunctional sewing machine was further developed.

After the Second World War, the sewing machine industry in the former West Germany, Italy and Japan developed rapidly.
