Advantages and disadvantages of PP edge banding

2016-08-02

Today we have a deeper understanding of PP edge banding through comparison. We use PVC edge banding and ABS edge banding that we are familiar with to make a comparison with PP edge banding. , let you have a more intuitive understanding of PP edge banding.

No matter what kind of material the edge banding, its function is to protect and decorate the furniture board. It gives the furniture board various beautification effects. While the edge banding strip in the furniture edge banding, after heating, there will be varying degrees of deformation.

Because the heat resistance of PVC plastic edge banding strip is worse than ABS and PP, the edge banding strip of final edge banding will curl at high temperature. Although the PVC edge banding strip after edge banding has a small deformation, the end of the panel still shows a little fall off. It can be seen that the base material of edge banding has a significant impact on the dimensional stability of plastic edge banding.

The shrinkage ratio of three kinds of plastic edge banding is PVC > ABS > pp. it can be seen that the dimensional stability of PP is the best, followed by ABS and PVC. Observe the dimensional stability of three kinds of plastic edge banding with the increase of temperature. The shrinkage of three kinds of plastic edge banding increases with the increase of temperature. Among them, the shrinkage rate of PVC edge banding before edge banding is very large, while the shrinkage rate of PVC edge banding after edge banding is close to that of ABS and PP below 70 ℃, and the difference is large above 70 ℃.

The shrinkage rate of the three is different because of their different heat resistance. The heat resistance of plastics refers to the ability of materials to resist deformation, softening, size change, strength reduction, other performance reduction or working life reduction due to their own physical or chemical changes in the heating environment.

The heat resistance can be divided into physical heat resistance and chemical heat resistance. This paper discusses the physical heat resistance of plastics, that is, the resistance to dimensional changes. The heat resistance is usually expressed by some characteristic temperature, and the most practical significance is the highest continuous use temperature. The temperature is the temperature that characterizes that the plastic can work for a long time without serious deterioration of its performance in practical application.

Among the three kinds of plastic edge banding, PP edge banding has the best heat resistance, the highest continuous use temperature can reach 120 ℃; ABS is the second, the highest continuous use temperature is 85 ℃ - ll0 ℃, while PVC edge banding has the worst, the highest continuous use temperature is 65 ℃ - 85 ℃. Although ABS edge banding has good heat resistance, its toughness is not as good as PVC and pp. when it is heated and deformed at 80 ℃, cracks appear on the edge of the plate. The hot-melt adhesive solidifies and loses its viscosity when exposed to air, resulting in degumming, and it will fall off automatically at 90 ℃. However, PP is still attached to the plate even if it is heated because of its excellent toughness, but with the increase of temperature, even if the edge banding strip has good heat resistance and toughness, due to the influence of heated melt adhesive, as long as there is a little gap, it will solidify and lose its viscosity, which will eventually lead to degumming.

From the perspective of furniture use, the phenomenon of degumming is affected by many factors, among which the shrinkage of edge banding is one of the factors - - the gap of edge banding caused by thermal deformation leads to the degumming caused by the solidification of hot melt adhesive, but in the normal use environment, the general furniture environment will not reach the high temperature above 60 ℃. Some kitchen furniture have certain requirements for the heat resistance of edge banding, but the excellent heat resistance of ABS and PP can withstand, so it is not easy to produce the quality problem of shrinkage caused by heat deformation. Through these two articles, our team should have a general understanding of PP edge banding. Now I will make a summary of the advantages and disadvantages of PP edge banding.

PP edge banding has advantages:

1. Safety, environmental protection, non-toxic, PP material tableware in the market for many years is an example.

2. PP edge banding has the best dimensional stability.

3. PP edging strip has good heat-resistant performance and does not deform at 150 ℃. Utility model is used for edge sealing of furniture with high temperature demand such as cupboard.

4. Good anti-corrosion effect

5. PP edge banding bend is not white.

6. The most outstanding performance is bending fatigue resistance. Its products can bend dozens of times without damage at room temperature.

7. PP edge banding is easy to operate.

shortcoming

1. The temperature of embrittlement is - 35 ℃

2. Wear resistance is slightly poor.
